Bird watching

With an amazing biological diversity of more than 850 bird species, Costa Rica offers great bird watching opportunities in spectacular places.

The Resplendent Quetzals are the most popular among birdwatchers and are found in the high-altitude cloud forests of Central America, such as the Monteverde cloud forest, the Barva Volcano area, and the Dota and Cerro de la Muerte mountains to the south of San Jose.

The tropical forest of the Monteverde Reserve is home to 400 species of birds, including the three types of Bellbirds.

In the Palo Verde National Park, you can find the most attractive birds in the wet season, as well as migratory birds when they arrive in the marshy areas.

The Santa Rosa National Park boasts around 250 species of birds.

The Corcovado National Park, Manuel Antonio National Park and the Carara Biological Reserve offer protection to endangered species, including the fascinating Scarlet Macaw.
