Whale watching

The tropical climate of Costa Rica and its warm waters are ideal for these marine mammals that enjoy specific areas along the coast.

The best place to observe whales in Costa Rica is on the Pacific Coast, where humpback whales migrate between July and November and then again between December and March.

The Osa Peninsula is visited by humpback whales that migrate from both the northern and southern hemispheres, meaning that whale populations are concentrated more here than in any other part of the country. Additionally, this large group of whales remains close to the peninsula for a long time, giving Costa Rica one of the longest whale watching seasons in the world.
